Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 315 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks a full-time math teacher to teach 6th-grade math, 7th-grade pre-algebra, and 8th-grade algebra, supporting the progressive integration of STEAM content and skills. Members of the math department strive to create opportunities for team teaching and work with grade-level teachers of other disciplines on integrated projects. The Middle School math teacher also serves as an advisor for a group of seven to nine Middle School students. Additionally, all Middle School teachers are expected to teach an elective and collaborate on a project-based learning course.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree or higher in education or a related field
A minimum of 3 years teaching experience
Knowledge of the social, emotional, and academic needs of middle school-age students
Well-versed in best practices for delivering mathematics, especially in project-based environments
Commitment to progressive education
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with Illustrative Mathematics and Responsive Classroom curricula a plus
Major Responsibilities:
Candidates should be experienced in teaching mathematics and have strong skills in teaching mathematical theory and analysis. A master’s degree in education focusing on mathematics and at least three years of successful experience as a teacher is preferred, but alternate pathways into the profession will be considered.
Candidates’ pedagogy should be student-centered, and candidates should be knowledgeable and comfortable with differentiating instruction.
Experience with curriculum development and integration, various assessment strategies, and constructivist teaching/learning are preferred.
A commitment to social justice and equity, cultural competence, the ability to work collaboratively, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to work closely with families are essential.

All Middle School teachers chaperone an annual multi-day capstone trip.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
Long periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

The Expected Salary Range: $60,000 - $110,00
