Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 315 students in NW Washington, DC, seeks a passionate, dedicated, and experienced Early Childhood Educator to join our Pre-Primary team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of early childhood development, a collaborative spirit, and a genuine love for working with young children. This teaching role reports to the Director of the Pre-Primary School.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred (minimum CDA certification required).
3–5 years of classroom experience with children ages 2.5–5 years
Strong understanding of and/or experience with Emergent Curriculum, Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Play-Based Learning approaches.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Demonstrated ability to create a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Team-oriented, flexible, and eager to collaborate with colleagues and families.
Major Responsibilities:
Create a warm, responsive, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that fosters exploration, creativity, and joy.
Observe, document, and assess each child’s growth, adapting strategies to support individual learning needs.
Support children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development through hands-on, child-centered experiences
Collaborate with other teachers and families to ensure the holistic development of each child.
Maintain clear, open communication with families through regular updates, parent-teacher conferences, and informal check-ins.
Support children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development through hands-on, child-centered experiences.
Promote a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom and environment for all students.
Work collaboratively with the Pre-Primary team and specialists to support a cohesive and consistent experience for all children.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences and communicate openly with families/guardians regarding their child’s learning journey and classroom experiences.
Prepare reports and documentation that reflect each child’s progress, observations, and developmental journey.
Adapt easily to the dynamic needs of our children and daily classroom routines.
Maintain flexibility to adapt to changing classroom needs, schedules, and activities.
Participate actively in school life, including events (sometimes on weekends), professional development, and team meetings.
Physical Requirements:
As an Early Childhood Teacher, you will be actively engaged in the following:
Moving around the classroom and school campus, staying on your feet, and interacting with children.
Bending, kneeling, or crouching to work directly with children at their level.
Lifting and carrying 25-30 pounds of materials or classroom supplies.
Using your hands to handle teaching tools and materials.
Reaching and stretching to organize classroom materials or assist children.
Ability to respond quickly and attentively to children’s needs and ensure their safety.
Working in active, sometimes noisy environments with young children.
Spending time outdoors in different weather conditions for physical play and activities with the kids.

The Expected Salary Range: $60,000-$90,000
